On the 30th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between Republic of Korea and Pakistan, Korean Ambassador inaugurates the honorary consulate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The republic of Korea’s Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Choong Joo Choi inaugurated the honorary consulate of KPK in Peshawar, in an impressive ceremony held on the 18th of April. In his inaugural speech he said that an estimated $5 billion investment in Pakistan is currently in the pipeline and this will help facilitate even greater Korean investment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Choong Joo Choi further added that opening the consulate was the symbol of the importance his country attached to "this land of brave people". He said that establishment of the consulate was also a promise that Pak-Korean diplomatic, cultural and economic relations will get stronger in the future. He said Pakistan and Korea were celebrating 30th year of the establishment of their diplomatic relations, but over the last few years ties of both the countries have been strengthened like never before. Referring to the appointment of the honorary consul in Peshawar, Afan Aziz, the Korean ambassador said that it was part of the outreach efforts of the Korean government to upgrade its services by providing inclusive consular services to the people of the KP. Ambassador requested the people of the KP to visit the honorary consul so that he could serve them better. Earlier, the honorary consul of Republic of Korea in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Afan Aziz said that he would work towards further enhancing the cordial relationship that existed between the two friendly countries. While mentioning that the formal relations between the two countries are three decades old, the informal relations between the two regions date back centuries as it was a monk from the current Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region that had brought Buddhism to Korea. While commenting on the economy he stated that till the seventies the economies of both Korea and Pakistan were parallel, but since then the Koran economy grew and after economic expansion in Korea, where the per capita income in 1961 stood at the paltry $80, it now stands among the top 13 countries in terms of per capita income. It (Korea) has become one of the most developed and influential countries in the world, he said. He said the Korea was a role model in so many respects to Pakistan and we can learn a lot from the development model of Korea. He said that government has been pursuing a "look east" policy and the nation would soon go to the crucial vote and after elections I hope that we would try to pursue the same policy and send some teams to Korea to learn and implement the Korean model in the KP because we want to see this province grow. PMLN Secretary general Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Senator Ilays Ahmed Bilour, spokesperson of chief justice Mr. Athar Minallah, Former chief secretary KP Muhammad Azam Khan, and additional chief secretary Attaullah Khan Toru were among doctors, lawyers, businessmen and other notables of KPK that attended the impressive ceremony. Earlier the Ambassador of Korea, had visited the newly inducted Inspector General of Police, Mr. Innam Ghani, and discussed matters of mutual interest. The ambassador also visited the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of commerce and Industry and met the business men of the province.
